Federal Skilled Trades

The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is an Express Entry pathway designed for experienced trades professionals who want to become permanent residents of Canada. This program is ideal for individuals with hands-on experience in high-demand fields such as construction, manufacturing, electrical work, transportation, and industrial maintenance—sectors that play a vital role in supporting Canada’s growing economy.
To qualify, applicants must have at least two years of full-time skilled trades experience within the last five years, meet minimum language requirements, and hold either a valid job offer from a Canadian employer or a certificate of qualification issued by a provincial, territorial, or federal authority in Canada. While a formal academic degree is not required, candidates must meet the technical and licensing standards of their trade.
Eligible applicants enter the Express Entry pool and are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conduct regular draws—sometimes specifically for trades—inviting top-ranked candidates to apply for permanent residency.
The FSTP is an important pathway for Canada as it helps fill labour shortages in essential trades such as welding, plumbing, carpentry, machining, and heavy equipment operation. Applicants may also strengthen their chances through Express Entry–aligned Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), including Ontario’s Skilled Trades Stream.
At Drive2 Immigration, we help trades professionals verify their qualifications, understand licensing requirements, and build strong Express Entry profiles. If you’re ready to bring your trade skills to Canada, book a consultation and let our team guide you through every step.
